Global warming is one of the most serious challenges facing us today. To protect the health and economic well-being of current and future generations, we must reduce our emissions of heat-trapping gases by using the technology, know-how, and practical solutions already at our disposal. An increasing body of observations gives a collective picture of a warming world and other changes in the climate system. While North America and Europe exhibit the highest density of indicators, scientists have made a great effort in recent years to document the early impacts of global warming on other continents.
Now we have the technology and ingenuity to reduce the threat of global warming in 2007. We can take steps toward reducing our dependence on oil and other fossil fuels that cause global warming. Cars and trucks are one of the sources of carbon dioxide emissions. So, an effort to address global warming must reduce emissions from cars and trucks. We can reduce our contribution to global warming by putting energy efficiency, renewable energy and vehicle technology solutions in place at the federal level.
